The value of a thing isn't distillable to a hard number, and in trying to do so, we cheapen the wonderful and make the essential unaffordable. When I was younger I used to live on military bases and you could get second hand instruments for basically nothing. It was pretty common for military families to just not return their instruments to whatever off-base school they were going to when they moved. permalink fedilink source parent
