I'm happy to concede it's zero without looking it up; it makes no difference to either of our positions here.

It's just a Red Herring for you to mount a soapbox to tell me and anyone who hasn't blocked you yet how China Did Nothing Wrong and America Did Nothing Good.

That's why people evidently keep calling you a tankie, and that's how you and I differ so I never get called a tankie.

TL;DR: Not All Socialists Are Tankies, but All Tankies Think All Socialists Are Tankies.

You are just inventing straw men to attack at this point, after ignoring just about everything I said (save for the parts that helped you pivot to your propaganda pitch).

You've done a +1 in the bucket of "Should I just block lemmy.ml?" Like 90% of the socialists I talk to from there end up being tankies and it's exhausting, not to mention erodes my faith in socialism. As I said, nothing you've said here has been in good faith.

Why do you argue in bad faith? I have no idea. Maybe you're secretly anti-socialist and want to make socialists look dumb.

soo, just to chime in, i get your whole point, and i agree with you. i'm just gonna propose another explanation why the other user behaves like a tankie:

the collapse of the sovjet union scarred many people psychologically. in its core, the sovjet union was a noble project with a bad execution, and it's like, if you're working for something, and can't accept that it fails. it's like the love of your life leaves you or sth, some people never get over it. some of these people then think that it was because of america's constant military threats etc that made the sovjet union fail. anyways, these people then end up thinking "well, if we had more military power, then we'd have been successful". and that drives them to become tankies.

meanwhile, the sovjet union failed for complex geopolitical reasons that had basically nothing to do with military power. so the tankies are wrong, but they're wrong because they're deeply hurt themselves, not because they're inherently evil people.

Oh I don't think they're evil. I stated very clearly that I have no idea what's going on in their head.

All I know is the effect they have on others, which is negative on average, and as a result - harmful to the spread of goodness in humanity.

It's like the kid down the street who was beat up by some black kids and is forever racist because of it. I can intellectualize that he's deeply hurt by his experience, and I can try to talk him out of being racist, but I'm still going to dislike him and try to block him from affecting others with his poison.

Again I'll remind that "Nonconfrontational" person I blocked you, so there's no point in replying to me. Following me around the thread downvoting everything I say kinda highlights the issue with people like you.

Before you assert that I must not have blocked you or I wouldn't know it was you:

I saw the 1 more reply and Lemmy wouldn't let me read it, which I assumed means it's from someone I blocked.
I want to say you're the third or so person I've ever blocked on Lemmy.
I double-checked by logging out, and confirmed it was you.

My advice would be to touch some grass.
