Goofus n Rufus, to me looks like the art style of Ziggy. The name is reminiscent of Goofus and Gallant from Highlights Magazine.

I am sure i knew Atomic Mary at one point, but I am drawing a blank.

Maybe @m_f@discuss.online or @JohnnyEnzyme@piefed.social might have some ideas.

Those darned cats looks like maybe a mash up of Doonesbury, and Garfield.

    • agree, Ziggy or other simple / big-nose comics (he wasn't unique in that) done in sort of a Borscht Belt / old-timey / spit-take style
    • Garfield, yup
    • Mary Worth
    • Doonesbury for sure, and I'm thinking that dressing 'em up as cats is just a way of drifting it far enough so that it's not exact copy, just like the others

I actually do remember this one. Maybe not from the time, but in a reprint book. Great strip.

This is a totally new one to me.

Fun fact, Academia Waltz, the strip that became Bloom County was largely inspired by Doonesbury.
