Besides being very hardcore military the guy usually cares more about the law than anything else. And then when people try to skirt the law that's when "fuck it" takes over.

You're probably overthinking it, they don't really put a lot of critical thought into the things they like. These are people who literally worship a communist hippie, without an ounce of self-awareness.

From what I've seen of it, it's a big tough guy doing cop shit and pushing people around with his big tough-guyness. Admittedly haven't seen much but parts of episodes here and there that was the impression I got. Looked very boomerish to me.
