They're joking, but most of the US are "Right to Work" states. Meaning, on paper, you have the 'right' to quit your job without reprisal, but in practice the company can fire you without compensation. They owe for anything you've already done, but that's about it.

I was thinking their package was pretty generous but you're right it's very basic for other places.

Were I come from 4 months is the bare minimum. To be fair, you do not get your full salary but a reduced amount; however depending on the conditions that can extend up to 2 years.

Difference here is that it is not the company itself paying you that money but it is rather a government system which is payed directly by the workers.

It's a system which is not advantageous if you never lose your job, since you have to pay for it regardless; but comes very handy if you ever end up needing it.

The company also has to pay you 20-33 days of salary for every year you've been working there.
