Well, I think they came from some material event. "The water was making people sick so anyone that doesn't boil their water is an 'abomination' in the eyes of the Lord". That kind of reasoning.

Not that the entire premise was correct. But more that the conclusion was beneficial for the conditions of the time and was never revised based on new material circumstances. It became dogma instead.

I guess quoting me like that I do sound silly. But, I had hoped my comment in context implied what I meant.

I was also joking at the end about the homophobic shit if that wasn't obvious too.
