A personal caveat: While the mental gymnastics of the right-wing are as ridiculous, as they infuriating; it also needs to be said that Christopher Nolan is anything but a leftist. This article here does a good job to delve into Nolan's political bend.
Didn't like the movie all that much, not because of any politics but simply that it actually paid very little focus to his actual adventures on the journey. The last thing I wanted was yet another Hollywood style 'hero vs mooks' ending battle.
(Yes, I'm aware the story ended with a slaughter. That's different from how the movie ended, imo.)
