Stimmt, bevor es "Polizei" hieß, war es halt die Gendarmerie, davor die Stadtwache - und den Begriff "Policey" gab es wohl tatsächlich schon im Mittelalter. Wobei er damals wohl nicht eine einzelne Institution beschrieb, sondern generell die öffentliche Verwaltung.

    Richtig. Das Wort Polizei kommt von griechischen politeia und das bedeutet so viel wie Staatsverwaltung. Ironischer weiße bedeutet das gleiche wort auch Bürgerrecht. Den alle macht geht vom volke aus.
