I'm not an expert but I've tried to educate myself on the region, and the best I can explain it is that it's a society that was subjugated under colonialism for so long that it has inherited it's characteristics, and the state that resulted is one that is intended to fulfill the same colonial subject role in modern global capitalism. For this to work, the entire country, or at least the overwhelming majority have to be anti communist and pro imperialist, and the reactionary society, religious conservatism and outright hatred of their neighbours and minorities is so rooted in the people that even the so called communist parties have inherited this, and are all social chauvinist by now. The only reason they aren't up there with Israel and the US in terms of imperial and colonial behaviour is because they are not as capable militarily and economically to realise their fascist ambitions.
