Because there are (were?) enough former cubans who fled the country and want nothing more to see it burn, and their descendants, to determine the outcome of Florida's statewide elections, including their 30(!) electoral college votes and 2 senators.

Literally that's it.

    Florida has about 1.6 million Cuban-Americans, while Florida has about 23.5 million people total. Cuban-Americans certainly influence elections in Florida a decent amount, but I'm certain that's not the only reason for the blockade.
