Fascism is a liberal solution to a liberal problem.
The true, central tenet of liberal ideology is that those who privately own the means of production (and, let's face it, everything else) must be protected by state violence while not being subject to it, while those who do not must be subjected to state violence without being protected by it.
Strip away all the fluff that liberals claim liberalism is all about - the pretense at "democratic values", the cynical (but very selective) distribution of "human rights" - and liberal ideology remains intact because it's only that central tenet that truly matters to it.
While this central tenet of liberalism provides the legal basis for the rule of liberal elites it has no inherent mechanism for the extreme violence that is necessary to enforce that rule - the liberal order had to invent that on the fly, first by institutionalising violent oversight over the working class through the invention of policing and, when even that didn't prove adequate, the funding and enabling of ultraviolent paramilitary political groups and movements that, if necessary, could be handed the entirety of the state apparatus to ensure the destruction of any threat to liberal elites' privilege and power.
What Elon Musk and his fellow liberal elites are doing is no mystery.
