As non American: what was the name before?
Department of War until 1947, then Department of Defense until recently made Department of War again
I would bet money that the next non-progressive Democrat will rename it back to the Department of Defense so they could make a big show about how they're supporting Israel's "defense".
If the name flips another time it might become a tradition.
It's still the Department of Defense. Only congress can change that and they didn't. This was always a distraction for the media to latch onto instead of reporting on all the crimes happening right under their nose. Like "Gulf of America" that everyone promptly forgot about.
That's both a relief and really annoying. God I hope we get something better next term, if there's still a democracy by then.
