Ok real talk... What are your actual personal thoughts on AI?

Yeah we all hear the main arguments... AI is bad because of slop content, stealing from creators, brain rot & brain damage, privacy concerns and most importantly... how billionaires are just using it for their own selfish reasons
But I'm asking about YOU 🫵 personally. The individual. What do you really think about AI? Do you care or are you indifferent? Has it actually affected your day to day life?

I understand copyright law is what allows individual artists to make a living under the currently dominant ideology, it still doesn't change the fact that materially it doesn't make sense and it's an entirely ideological construct. Even today under capitalism electronic devices, storage on those devices and bandwidth to get data to those devices via the Internet is really cheap, this is proven by the fact that lots of people in extremely poor countries have smartphones and an Internet connection even when they don't have basic amenities like proper healthcare or education. The vast majority of the world population can have pretty much any kind of digital art in the palm of their hands very quickly for essentially free, the current material conditions allow for this, it is why piracy exists, it exists because it easily can exist.
Copyright law is here only to impose the dominant ideology onto the essentially post-scarcity digital world and for that to happen it needs to introduce significant inefficiencies in the distribution of digital goods that are materially extremely cheap to reproduce after the initial cost of making them.

Ok but what's the gameplan here for artists exactly? Cat's out of the bag, I don't think it's realistic that big AI companies are going to dole out royalties to millions of random artists around the world they stole from. Even if there's political will to do this how would you even begin to calculate which artist gets which slice of the cake.
The only other course of action within a capitalist framework is literally just ludditism, which might not even be a bad idea short term but in the end it's still a reactionary position even if it's grounded in real material concerns.
the move is to make AI art not copyrightable so nobody gets rich off it. do you support AI art or not?

I would support using AI for plenty of things, art included. Most commissioned art today isn't exactly soul shaking stuff teeming with creativity and emotion, it's corporate graphics, design templates, ads, assets for video games etc, I personally don't have a problem with using AI for that the same way I don't have a problem with my clothes being made with sewing machines.
As with everything else, the problem isn't the technology it's the economic system.
Also I don't think many people are profiting off of copyrighted AI art directly unless it's in service to those other things I mentioned.

What's even your point? Making AI art is easy therefore it couldn't possible have any value for any purpose?
I'm a software engineer by trade, a discipline where AI is also heavily encroaching on and there's a danger of my job being automated away too (I'm not completely convinced it will be automated away but let's assume for the sake of argument it will). It's also a job that used to take a lot of skill and even creativity.
Unlike lots of artists tho I understand this is the same historical process that happened time and time again and that there's nothing inherently special about my labor that makes it exempt from this historical process.
