And I grew up and am still pretty sheltered. People are always extremely friendly, helpful, and usually feed you plenty because trips often take a few hours. Day 2 in the US I got held up in broad daylight and haven't been back. There's an aura of public anxiety there, like no one can be trusted and no one trusts you.
