I feel very mixed about it. Good for people to try PeerTube and create videos but it's depending how much video channel there is, it's going to be a nightmare for moderation.
For example, other bigger Mastodon instances with open-registration despite some have good moderation team, it's much easier to have bad actors and you had to relie on people to report them. Compared to something that's closed, you have more control and better idea of if that account is going to be malicious. It's not 100% fool-proof but I find those instance with approve-registration tend to have less bad-actors compared to ones that widely open.
I run my own. Most instances are like mine, a small amount of videos to federate and a curated number of instances to federate with. Your right the "big" ones that federate with everything end up with very NSFW videos. Or ai slop.
Makertube is pretty good at it.
As a further discussion on moderation,
I would love a good craft or maker based platform. I will donate to it as a valuable community asset but at first peek I think it needs to be clearer on its remit, and boundaries - art is a classic example - what is art...because it can quickly turn to illustration and then borderline porn.
The thing that caught my attention is the poster who has repetitive posts of their puppies, and other posting their dogs adventures. I like puppies, and I like dogs they are cute but its not Facebook or Insta, or youTube. It's a platform supposedly for makers. So irrelevant, over repetitive content is an instant turn off for me and in indication of creep from those looking to 'build brands' or maybe those seeing it as a blogging outlet. I feel like the #creator leaves it open to 'anything goes' which seems at odds to the platform name, marketing and the weight of the other themes.
I do applaud those who try initiatives...and I hope this platform goes from strength to strength but I agree that an openness to everything will blur its point and burn out those trying to get it off the ground. Do you want to be the king of something, or the jack of everything?
