I hate DRM, removing it is good, but I also am very concerned this will ruin Resident Evil on Linux.

Resident Evil runs great, even on my 5 year old computer in Linux. All of them do. I never even notice the DRM, it loads fast, plays smooth, nothing for me to do at all, meaning proton is handling it.

Now I assume they will somehow tighten this down and it will make it not work on linux.

I don't buy or own many AAA games, but the whole series is excellent, I don't really care who is publishing them, but I am not interested in finding cracked versions and trying to make them work on linux. It just will dead end the game for me.

Division 1 seems to get some freedom to create what they want, but obviously Capcom is just another heavy handed corporate sweatshop, so I have no love for corporation.

    Damn, if only this presented some solution where the publisher isn't in control of how you run the game.

    I agree. Will they do that? Not likely.

    And thats the funny thing right? On linux is it there? Yes. Do I care? No. It has zero effect on me because it didn't take over the computer, only at a level inside of proton. Tab in and out, run at the same time, run on steamdeck. So much better than windows, and yet its going to get ruined.

    I have no interest in finding cracked versions of software, and there is always a possibility that the cracked version no longer will even work in linux.

    Funny thing is that the Hypervisor workarounds do NOT work under Linux lol

    Regarding finding cracked games, just google "free media heck yeah" to find trusted sources.

    And making them run under Linux is - for the most part - as easy as clicking "Run installer" when adding them manually in Heroic Launcher.

    It depends if you are talking anti cheat or anti copy, two different things. Proton translates the anticopy in denuvo passing it back and forth to wine, effectively making it work.

    Regarding finding cracked games, just google “free media heck yeah” to find trusted sources.

    No. I just do not want anything to do with that. Everything works now so why would I want to? It also breaks my cloud saves, and basically ease of use. That was fine when I was 12 but that was a long time ago.

    Also, I quit using google a long time ago, but thats another story.

    Well, you do you. The Hypervisor releases are not Linux-compatible, since they depend on some Powershell-scripts for installation - which understandably fails under Linux. I also wouldn't touch this stuff even with a stick because of the severe risk of bad actors getting low level access on my PC - a cracked game is one thing, but this actually awful from a security perspective. (Although i read that the newest iteration does not even requi

    I simply set up Syncthing to synchronize the directory which contains the Wine-Prefixes for games, making the synchronization of Saves something I do not have to think about; this works for any game regardless of source, including itch.io, GoG and other games. I do like Steams Cloud saves, but my solution works even without internet connection. Btrfs deduplication keeps the storage requirements low.

    I keep "Backups" of a lot of Games I own legally, just to make sure I am not dependent on some external service if I want to play them. And if push comes to shove, I have about 20 TB highly compressed game installers and Console Isos, which will last me until the day i die.

    I also ditched google a while ago, switching to Metager - I do not miss Google at all, i can understand you completely in that regard.

    Unfortunately that's the push and pull we have. This kind of research will enable more people to play more games, including Linux gamers.

    I don't think it will. It will just make them create another version of control, worse than the last. We already know that many kinds of anti cheat keep linux out already. Denuvo was more or less no big deal, I never even notice it exists. But now it is likely to change and make things shitty again.

    Frankly I would rather they have not hacked it.
