    everything after w2k is NT. by kernel version, its

    • NT4: 4.0
    • 2000: 5.0
    • XP: 5.1
    • Vista: 6.0
    • 7: 6.1
    • 8: 6.2
    • 8.1: 6.3
    • 10: 10.0

    haven't checked 11 but i bet you they bumped the major again.
