I wanted to independently verify this story; have to say I'm a bit disappointed.

Fuck, though.
Yeah, that's why I was just a bit disappointed.
Switch the order of events and he gets a sealed Juvenile record and a heroic start to his adult life.
But he was paroled in 2019 - hope he’s good!
Deep down, all humans are trash.
I wouldn't say that. Sounds like he couldn't handle/capitalize on his earlier success.
Just sad.
Or society doesn't actually reward heroism and your own view of morality doesn't properly recognize the complexity of navigating life in a capitalist hell, one of the two.
Some woman was so impressed she set up a scholarship fund for the kid, yet he was still so broke he robbed a place for $200 (split between 2 people).
