Gavin Newsom is certainly positioning himself for a primary bid, but I haven't seen DNC leadership backing him? I think the chances of having a proper primary (which Newsom hopefully will not win) are a lot better with a grassroots-focused guy like Ken Martin as the DNC chair than with Debbie Wasserman Schultz. However, Tom Perez was supposed to be fairly progressive and his DNC still rigged the primary for Biden, so it's too early to really tell.
