I don't understand why it has a power cord. It should be generating it's own energy.

It would be generating energy but there's nothing there to capture it. Most of the steam side was thrown out of the reactor or straight up vaporized.

It did however create and capture and insane power spike before the explosion, iirc like 30 gigawatts on a reactor designed for a maximum rating 10x less than that.
