"In 1968 US soldiers from the 23 infantry division and 3rd and 20th Infantry regiments raped and murdered 347 to 504 unarmed citizens in South Vietnam, almost entirely civilians, most of them women and children. The killing began while the troops were searching the village for guerillas, and continued after they realized that no guerillas seemed to be present. Villagers were gathered together, held in the open, then murdered with automatic weapons, bayonets, and hand grenades."
