how did you choose your fursona species? (beehaw.org)

been considering making a proper fursona recently, but i’m not sure what species(‘s) to pick. how did you pick yours? did it have to do with aesthetics, personality, or some kind of connection to that animal? all three? tell your story :)

My sona is a hoofed dragon (kind of like a Kirin/Qilin, but without the eastern dragon influence), and it came about from a couple places:

  1. Dragons are cool. I know kind of generic, but in the later times before finalizing my sona, I was drawn in by draconic folks. Something about them stuck out to me, and I knew dragons were how I needed to represent myself.
  2. The sparks that set me off into the furry fandom started with the mythos of creatures such as satyr, centaurs, and minotaurs, hoofed folk have fascinated me in such a way since I was a kid, that whatever my sona was to be, it'd be a hoofer. At one point the thought of a horse sona crossed my mind, but that kind of dedication to horses wasn't really something that caught me as much as dragons did.
