I feel like engaging on Lemmy (at least the NSFW side of Lemmy) is almost pointless. Maybe it's because I'm a straight guy (no hate for other genders/sexualities), but I only ever had real engagement on the first couple posts I made to any of the NSFW chat communities here.

I have always liked online roleplay, and was quite active on Reddit's DirtyPenpals community back before I swore off Reddit because of all the changes and being forced to use the official reddit app. It was sort of like this there as well, but there was for sure more activity on Reddit. I'd usually get a message every other post or so.

I'm interested in what you all think and have you had any luck on communities outside of Reddit at all? I'd hate to have to go back there, but right now, it looks like it may be the only option.

Sorry that you feel like you're shouting into the void. Truth be told, erotica and ERP isn't quite my cup of tea so I'm unlikely to engage on your posts(I'm also not your gender preference). Chat in general is always an exceptionally hit or miss things. For me it feels very much like a feast or famine scenario. There are some days where I end up with multiple quality conversations in my inbox at once and then months at a time without anything at all.

    Good point. It just seemed like a great community at first, with early engagement and then it quickly became an exercise in frivolity. I guess all I can do is continue what I'm doing. Besides, maybe if people see there is activity in these communities, even if it is just me, they will be more likely to participate.

    Well, you said it yourself. Even on Reddit it wasn't exactly an easy task to find someone compatible to talk about fantasies with. The community here is a small fraction of the size of Reddit communities and that's not even addressing the gender disparities. It's going to take time and patience and you're right that continuing to post is probably the best way forward, even if it sucks in the interim.
