Haha having this as default is exactly what would drive all the GIMP haters absolutely insane!

What you need though my friend is to uncheck 'Single-Window Mode' in the Windows menu 👍

    I am anything but a GIMP hater. I've been using GIMP for anything Inkscape can't do for more than 25 years. Nevertheless, I didn't see "Single-Window Mode" even though I had the "Window" menu open at least three times, as well as "Preferences". I wonder, why it wouldn't just import these standard prefs from 2.x...

    Sorry for the confusion; I didn't mean you were a GIMP hater - I was trying to make a joke about how the way you want to configure the UI would upset other people who like to complain about GIMP.

    I'm not sure why 3.0 doesn't copy across configs from old versions but apparently a lot of the code has been changed, so maybe they aren't compatible. It's definitely annoying when you've configured something and can't remember how to do it!
