Ironically, they are a post colonial invention that was the result of the US forcing the Navajo into concentration camps and issuing them rations of flour, sugar, and lard. I was graciously fed that when I was filming a powwow in Indiana for the local news and they just called them "Indian Tacos." I wonder why they didn't give the Navajo credit?
