Maybe you just gotta actually go look around a bit more...? permalink fedilink source hideshow 6 child comments replies: [–] ChonkyOwlbear@lemmy.world 11 points 2 years ago (4 children) It's not the same everywhere. Chicago has one of the biggest restaurant scenes in the country and there aren't any Native American restaurants. There are a few Mexican restaurants that do one or two traditional dishes, but that's it. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 4 child comments replies: [–] Voyajer@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago (2 children) That's surprising, there was one in the 50k pop town I grew up in. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago (1 child) You probably have more native folks than some regions. Columbus Ohio is a significant enough culinary city, but not only are there no reservations here in ohio, of the five states we border only Michigan has any. Illinois also doesn't have any. Here's a map and you can see the reason for the disparities clearly on it. Any Native American cuisine in this region would be a personal project of someone's. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 1 child comment replies: [–] Voyajer@lemmy.world 1 point 2 years ago I'm not any closer to any reservations then so it probably was someone's passion project permalink fedilink source parent [–] Trainguyrom@reddthat.com 1 point 2 years ago I recently dined at a place in Belvedere called Taqueria El Molcajete that was really good and was to the best of my knowledge quite authentic. They specify iAmerican vs Mexican style tacos (lettuce cheese and tomato vs cilantro and onion) in the taco section, and brought out a variety of homemade salsas with the complimentary homemade chips permalink fedilink source parent [–] shalafi@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago Spent my first 30 years in Oklahoma. Never heard of or seen one. permalink fedilink source parent
