redtea comments on I wonder why so many cartoons and anime are about monarchies. Like they love kings, princesses and royals. It is so annoying that they embellish them so much. I wonder if it is on purpose.

One advantage is that it can let the writer play out some revolutionary themes. It's safe. Can't really explore that in a modern setting.
