Lieber said that the $800 million climate resiliency project has begun with the awarding of a contract for the design of an estimated $270 million project to protect the Hudson Line from Spuyten Duyvil in the Bronx to Hastings-on-Hudson. He said that segment of track has experienced repeated impacts from storms. He said that assets that are in poor condition such as culverts and retaining walls will be repaired and expanded along with shoreline structure rehabilitation and implementing flood protection measures.

IMO, this all seems like regular maintenance items and not really "climate" related. With that said, love to see the investment

Seven of the 10 construction contracts for the Gateway Program are complete or in progress. That includes the completed Tonnelle Avenue Bridge Project in North Bergen and early stages of new track layout and tunnel boring across North Jersey. The new tunnel is set to open in 2035 and the current one is set to be redone by 2038.

Indian Point already possesses something extraordinarily valuable that cannot simply be recreated overnight: an established high-capacity connection to the electric grid in the heart of the Lower Hudson Valley.

For decades, the site delivered approximately 2,000 megawatts into one of the most energy-intensive regions in the country. The transmission corridors, substations, interconnections and other infrastructure necessary to move enormous amounts of electricity are already there.

Meanwhile, New York is spending billions of dollars on new transmission projects to move electricity from where it is generated to where it is needed in Westchester and New York City. Building major transmission infrastructure is extraordinarily expensive and can take years of planning, permitting and construction.

Before spending billions more building elsewhere, shouldn't we determine what can safely and economically be accomplished with the infrastructure we already have?

The argument appears to be even without a PWR at Indian Point, it's conceivable the connection to the grid is still a valuable piece of infrastructure that could be used to tie in another type of generation.

The enhanced program now provides eligible students with four rides per day, seven days a week and extends the benefit throughout the entire year, including the summer months.

This is a tremendous service. My favorite part is that it gets young people onto transit.
