They were discussing requiring a large one time fee to access whatever academic database they were running so teachers and professors who only needed one article or something couldn’t “get away with spending less”.

Moved onto commiserating about how online schooling because of COVID has cut into their profits because they couldn’t force as many people to get print editions.

They discussed potentially leasing by the page to schools and charging fees per student view.

I got one of those surly cornerbars (offbrand) and they're fucking great, would recommend to everyone. Easily the most comfy handlebars I've ever owned.

Also currently trying to piece together the perfect small size at most medium weight bicycle EDC pouch to chuck in my panniers so I can field repair my entire shit and also help other people.

Pretty sure I'll put some bar ends in there just to slap them into random bicycles so people don't core sample themselves. I am the velocipedal crusader, you will be saved from doctors having to extract a tubular 21mm cross section of yourself so they can figure out what the fuck you managed to lose because you didn't think to put 50 eurodollarcents of bar ends on your stuff.

New Hampshire town of six splits ‘first in the nation’ vote between Harris, Trump

The six residents of Dixville Notch, who voted at midnight, were evenly split between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump — a reflection of the tight 2024 election.

Wikipedia

Dixville Notch, New Hampshire

Dixville Notch is an unincorporated community in Dixville township, Coos County, New Hampshire. [The village] is known for being the first place to declare its results during the New Hampshire presidential primary. It is located in the northern part of the state.

[...]

The [Midnight voting tradition] was first organized by prominent Dixville Notch resident Neil Tillotson (1898 – October 17, 2001), who was traditionally the first voter. He would reportedly hold his ballot over the ballot box while watching his wristwatch. At the moment of midnight, Tillotson would drop the ballot into the ballot box and the rest of the town's residents would follow suit. Since Tillotson's death from pneumonia in 2001 at the age of 102, the first voter has been chosen by random ballot beforehand.

[...]

In popular culture

The community's voting tradition received a nod in the 2002 third-season episode of US television program The West Wing, in an episode entitled "Hartsfield's Landing", named after a town modeled on either Dixville Notch, or its companion, Hart's Location.

The most important election: check. Contested by the republicans up to the supreme court : probably. Libs blaming it all on the left (Ralph Nader and now Jill Stein): check

And no matter who wins, it's we the people, the voices who condemn genocide and the people of the world who suffer because of our managed 'democracy', yeah we all get to lose again
