I spent the morning listening to the Fall Out Boy version of "We Didn't Start the Fire". Since Star Trek in the Kelvin timeline and elsewhere often re-uses songs from our time, I thought it would be hilarious if "We Didn't Start the Fire" ended up being updated every 35 years or so, till the 32nd century.

So, hit us with your best take on "We Didn't Start the Fire" for the final episode of your favorite Star Trek series!

This is how I find out Fall Out Boy covered "We Didn't Start the Fire", getting my current events from the place I go to shitpost memes... Reddit truly has been replaced, whew!

Tangentially, the cover sounds decent, but in the end it's kinda bad because they didn't seem to understand that Billy Joel was going roughly chronologically and included a lot of clever turns of phrase to break up the monotony. The new one was giving me whiplash.

That’s a lot of why I don’t like the update much.

Joel himself doesn’t think much of the song — he finds the melody lacking — so I doubt we’ll see him update it any time soon.

Egads this is hard! I got two lines in and gave up. Free to anyone who wants to continue:

Captain Pike, Number One, emotional Spock, Talos IV,

Alien zoo, laser overload, General Order 7,
