"Star Trek: Starfleet Academy" will end with its upcoming second season, Variety has learned exclusively.

The sigh from me is wondering why Andy Weir felt it necessary to use a platform like ‘criticaldrinker’ to go out of his way to trash recent Star Trek.

“They didn’t accept my pitch so, you know, fuck ‘em,” doesn’t really sell me on putting my dollars and eyeballs towards the success of his movie — no matter a great performance by Ryan Gosling or great production values.

Rather tells me why all Weir’s heros are lone-guy-saves-all-on-his-own tropes.

Quoting Weir in the interview:

Later, Marsden brought up the divisive Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, which Paramount+ recently confirmed will end after its already-shot second season.

“I think we can probably safely never talk about it again,” Marsden quipped.

“It’s gone baby!” Weir cheerfully agreed. “It’s all gone.”

Marsden said his advice to Paramount is to de-canonize everything Star Trek from Enterprise onward.

“Okay, you’re a little more severe than I am,” Weir said. “I’ll give you my opinion and I’m just a consumer. I like Strange New Worlds. I think it’s pretty good. I didn’t hate Enterprise. I thought it was kind of weird. Lower Decks I thought was entertaining and fun. All the others, they can go. And here’s another thing: I pitched a Star Trek show to Paramount and I was in Zoom with the showrunners with all the shows and spent a lot of time talking to [executive producer Alex Kurtzman]. I don’t like a lot of the new Trek. He, as a person, is a really nice guy. But at the same time, those shows are shit. He is a nice guy. But they didn’t accept my pitch so, you know, fuck ’em.”

This is the Cadet comadge magnet from Fansets. They only have one Cadet variant, so no other colors. I wanted Engineering. I’ve spoken to the people at Fansets at STLV in the past and they said there is a strict review from CBS Studios.

Regardless of the circumstances around its cancelation, the latest 'Star Trek' series has been robbed of the chance almost every other show in the franchise has been given.

[R]egardless of what you believe about Starfleet Academy‘s ending, one thing is certainly true: the series wasn’t given the chance to grow that it deserved.

Although it’s become something of a common belief among Star Trek fans that no series has a great first season (they’re often mixed, sure, but there are definitely diamonds even among the seasons assumed to be the roughest), something the vast majority of Star Trek shows have all been given is time to find their footing. It’s arguably only Prodigy that has faced a similarly unfortunate fate, booted from Paramount’s own streaming service to come to an end on Netflix after just two seasons—and that show likewise faced similar challenges of trying to find a new audience and likely was a predecessor to the ramifications of Paramount preparing itself for acquisition. Even Lower Decks, which faced a similar kind of cultural backlash when it first launched, was given the time to grow into one of the strongest series of Trek‘s latest era.

My gripe with this magazine is the cover clearly states it is celebrating the franchise’s 60th anniversary but only has content going up to STB. Nothing for rest of New Trek. Pisses me off when you don’t acknowledge the franchise as a whole when you say it is for the 60th anniversary.

We urge Paramount to listen to the voices of millions of fans who are yearning for more adventures in the Starfleet Academy. Renewing the show for a third season is not just a business decision; it's about continuing a legacy, honouring storytelling, and nurturing a global community of Trekkers.

Do you prefer the hulking majesty of a Galaxy class, the sleek curves of an Intrepid class, the retro-futuristic Constitution or something else?

I've grown quite fond of the Danube class runabout. Small, agile, warp capable, and weapons. Most of the amenities of a larger ship in a smaller package. Where the large ships are like flying cities, the runabouts are more like space RVs and the quadrant their open road. There's just something more personal about them that appeals to me.

I highly recommend listening to this for a deep discussion on what ENT was.

During a recent panel aboard the Star Trek Cruise ship (via Screen Rant), Marina Sirtis stated Star Trek: Legacy is “never going to happen.”

Marina Sirtis: First of all, Legacy is never gonna happen.

Jonathan Frakes: Come on, Marina!

Marina Sirtis: You know, you hate hearing the truth. There is not a single studio in America that is gonna make a series where most of the leading actors are over 70 years old. I’m sorry, but that’s just the truth. It’s just Hollywood.

We're trying to rewatch Invasion now that it's concluded (or cancelled). First season is heavy going, lots of parallel plots that only slowly intertwine if at all, and not necessarily so much happening in every episode.

Next will be a For all mankind rewatch to be fully prepped for the upcoming season 5. Let's see if we can time it so we can binge the new episodes without a week's wait in between...

You have a recurring role as Chancellor Kelrec on Star Trek: Starfleet Academy alongside Holly Hunter. What has it been like jumping on the whole Star Trek ride?

RB: I’m very lucky to have that job. I’m in a good chunk of both seasons, and you’ve got Holly Hunter and Paul Giamatti. A huge amount of my scene work is with Holly Hunter. You’re working with someone who’s won an Academy Award, but nominated three times, and who also has learned from a whole other generation of actors and peers.

On one level, it’s like, ‘Wow, OK, I’m on this big franchise.’ But then on the other side, it’s been fun to watch these young actors grow over the two seasons. They’ve come from all across the galaxy. They’re from all over the world. They’ve never lived in Toronto before. They’re all here together, bonding and trying to make something special.

And then you have someone like Holly, who sets the bar incredibly high. She probably has more energy than anybody I’ve ever worked with. She’s more focused than anybody I’ve ever worked with. She’s pretty much more prepared than anybody I’ve ever worked with. Like the bar that she sets is so high for everyone, including me. I mean, as I said, I’m in year 30, and it’s like, ‘Hey Raoul, you better not fuck around on this. Let’s go.’

It’s just been great to work with an actor who’s senior to me in fame and experience and all that stuff, who I can still learn a lot from. It’s just a reminder that every day you’re on set, no matter what you’re doing or how long you’ve been doing it for, it really is a privilege to get to do this.
