Also, this did not happen. I dunno what did happen, if they give them like a little one wheel to eject with or they were just giving coordinates that make things looks better but there is no chance he crashed out of a fighter and walked a world record distance after. I don't care how much amphetamines we gave him.

I suspect that the initial SAR team picked him up closer to the site, but they were forced to divert to the nuke raid base, which then got made and had to be abandoned. They burned their only chance at taking their nuke program out for a fucking pilot who will likely never fly again. (Untreated ejection injuries are not fun)

Ackshullyyyyyyyyy, it was a weapon systems officer who couldn't... *checks notes...* push the button in front of him to intercept a missile. They saved the most useless guy they could, all for the cost of three planes and an injured rescue crew that also might be unable to do their job now.

They did not necessarily pick him up from the temporary base, right? Could be they landed there after deciding it was a more defensible position and sent helicopters out to grab the pilot

That's what I've suggested. Also it might be that the initial extraction zone was also burned, and they had to use their nuke raid base, which would be hilarious. God I hope to live long enough to see this operation declassified because it was clearly a gigantic shitshow.

Don’t worry, if any seals were involved (as they always are for some bizarre reason, specialized forces aren’t so special anymore?), there will be two books from every participant within 5 years

He could've also stolen a car from people, I think even fighter pilots still have a pistol on them. Or maybe this guy was just born to be runner, forced to fly a plane.

I believe F-15 pilots might have a compact version of an M16 carbine, but I'm not sure if it's in widespread deployment. In any case most countries have orders for pilots to surrender if cornered, the gun is to scare away animals or a shepherd with a shotgun. Pilots are expensive (not as expensive as an A10 or C130, though)
