Forbid (personally) targetted advertising and half job is done. Suddenly user data lose a lots if value and most dark patterns are centered around the gold that is the data. That said algo should be forbidden too, I agree with you. Or at last opt-in with warning like the ones on cigarettes (algorithms cause harm to your brain).

Excited yes, but realistically we will be lucky if it's usable within 5 years.

As started in other comments, TrueNAS is staying open source, only the build system is going closed source because some company was ripping them off and removing license. But the OS system itself can't go closed source because of the gpl license.

So no need to move away if you like it.

Its huge and not huge at the same time. Lots of new stuff, but lots only in some clients. What disappoints me a bit is the lossless editing. On one hand it is nice feature to have, on the other I want my edits to be permanent. I made Immich to save my images in pre-defined structure so that if immich stops working one day (or if I want to perform batch file operations or whatever) I still have my photos neatly organized. This lossless editing means that the changes will live somewhere in database and not on the actual filesystem. I hope they eventually introduce option to apply on the actual file.

My wife had one, sadly they have very closed system, its really just for notes, if you try use it as ebook reader it will get complicated and unintuitive real fast. Dont even think about reading web on that thing.

Just tell them (the truth) that their emails are read, their keystrokes are sent, their messages are not safe either, tell them that they have no online privacy and America sees it all (that America that is currently shooting people for recording a video). Older generations, I found, expect privacy and they usually are shocked to find out that it is breached every moment they use their mail, os, phone, etc... It is the same with my parents. The change is not fast, we always talk about one particular area (like messaging) and then they ask me themselves what they can do to fix it (like installing signal).

bro, open your mind for a minute. Privacy is for everyone. And we need masses wanting privacy otherwise nothing changes.

Should we also boycott companies that basically do what Trump wants by making other nations pay the US tariffs? E.g. in the link you can read about Sony (Japan) and Xbox (Microsoft - US). I know Microsoft is already American, but it is another major manufacturer that is hiking prices globally.

Those are so far few companies, but I read that some clothing brands and even food markets are discussing about this option.

What do you think?

Man, I am disappointed. I go to the website and it took me ages to find pricing. I had to go to menu > about and only then there is new menu item "membership" where I could see the price. I hate such dark patterns, if they cared they would not hide the price (and I don't even think its unreasonable price, why hide it...)
