While it’s not practical for everyone, we still do have non-motorized push mowers and rakes, which make a LOT less noise and work really well. Electric weed trimmers are also much quieter than the petrol-powered ones.
Who needs a push mower? I reap my grass with a scythe like my ancestors did.
My push lawnmower sounds like the chorus of the damned screaming for every blade of grass plucked from this mortal coil.

A lot of people don't realize you should change your lawnmowers oil
The electric mowers are pretty quiet too. If I didn't have such a big area to mow I would strongly consider one of the plug in models, but also since no one lives within a mile of me I don't really have to worry about noise pollution either.
