We’re back from holiday! Germany was great. Our favourite city was probably Hamburg because a) Miniatur Wunderland, b) Planten un Blomen and c) Hamburg DOM (we rode the big ferris wheel and there were fireworks! :D)

German tv was also funny because they have a lot of dubbed english shows. I had a great night lying in bed watching dubbed Gilmore Girls.

The people we met were all really friendly and nice, we had an awesome time. Thanks Germany!

Sounds fuckin' mint to be fair.

Get me some tourism and carbs.

[-] CosmoNova@lemmy.world 36 points 3 weeks ago

You‘re in luck because German bakeries house 3 thousand different kinds of bread.

[-] nightlily@leminal.space 3 points 3 weeks ago

To the extent that even locals just point and say „das da“ because who fucking knows what they’re calling each one.

Someone must have fucked up, because when I visited Germany I was never handed my complimentary, human sized sausage. I still had plenty of sausage, but I feel like I missed out now

[-] Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world 54 points 3 weeks ago

You need to report to the Willkommenswurstausgabestelle.

[-] aeronmelon@lemmy.world 14 points 3 weeks ago

I couldn’t spell that if I was looking right at it while doing so.

[-] Lemminary@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

Try the head rolling on keyboard method. You'll be 99% close every time.

[-] ViatorOmnium@piefed.social 32 points 3 weeks ago

Did you remember to fill out the Willkommenmenschengrößewurstanfrageformulare when you arrived?

[-] jimerson@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

My duolingo is paying off.. I understood that!

[-] Rumo161@feddit.org 4 points 3 weeks ago

That sausage is perfectly average. Small even.

[-] Draegur@lemmy.zip 28 points 3 weeks ago

What about the pretzels and the beer!

[-] snooggums@piefed.world 14 points 3 weeks ago

Not enough hands to hold all four!

Gonna have to get one of those hats that hold beer, and some sort of pretzel bandolier.

[-] zaphod@sopuli.xyz 6 points 3 weeks ago

Hamburg isn't really a pretzel state. If you visit, get a Franzbrötchen. Beer is the same as everywhere else more or less.

[-] Obi@sopuli.xyz 2 points 3 weeks ago

Doesn't that just mean French bread?

[-] zaphod@sopuli.xyz 4 points 3 weeks ago

It's possible that the name originated during the napoleonic occupation of Hamburg, but there are other theories involving a baker named Franz. Anyway, it's neither french nor bread, it's a pastry.

[-] boonhet@sopuli.xyz 2 points 3 weeks ago

They started selling those in my corner of Europe and the store (coop) calls them, roughly translated, "Franz's cinnamon pastry".

[-] boonhet@sopuli.xyz 2 points 3 weeks ago

If I'm ever visiting Hamburg, I'll be eating a Hamburger. Or perhaps s Hamburgerinne.

[-] Samskara@sh.itjust.works 5 points 3 weeks ago

Hamburg is actually known for its fish buns.

but don’t ask about the trains. or israel.

[-] UnfortunateShort@lemmy.world 10 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

Oh, if you ask people about Israel, I think you will get the answer you expect. Support for Israel seems to be concentrated in political spheres, where I'd say it's about 50:50. Most ordinary people don't care about Israel per se, but they do care about war crimes by countries we call allies

Entered a restaurant right at opening time in Munich once.

Ooooooh Miniatur Wunderland!

I totally wanna go there after seeing in on TV! They have a whole show about the behind the scenes work called Wunderland XXL :)

[-] limelight79@lemmy.world 5 points 3 weeks ago

It's amazing!

We saw it in 2016, and we took the behind the scenes tour (we requested an English version and they found someone to do it). The guide said they were going to bridge to another building across the water from them. I thought, "Yeah, right, that will never happen."

A few years later, a bridge went in and now they have trains in the other building, and running through the bridge. They did it!

[-] KoboldCoterie@pawb.social 11 points 3 weeks ago

Never been to Germany, but this makes me want to go, not going to lie.

[-] Lemminary@lemmy.world 7 points 3 weeks ago

If I ever visit Germany, it'll be purely for the sausage. 😏

[-] Knock_Knock_Lemmy_In@lemmy.world 18 points 3 weeks ago

Careful. Sausage in Germany is die Wurst.

[-] boonhet@sopuli.xyz 9 points 3 weeks ago

Purely for the memes, go acquire yourself some VW original part 199 398 500 A

[-] Lemminary@lemmy.world 4 points 3 weeks ago

Why does a sausage have a serial number?? Damn, Germany, you scary.

[-] Bytemeister@lemmy.world 5 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

Ridiculous. It doesn't have a serial number...

A model number on the other hand...

[-] boonhet@sopuli.xyz 2 points 3 weeks ago

It's a VW original part because you need them to build Volkswagens! Specifically you need them to be in the bellies of the workers.

[-] Schmuppes@lemmy.today 3 points 3 weeks ago

So the "A" means it's the original recipe. If they had introduced the "B" or "C" variant, it would have been sightly changed/improved, but all later variants would still fit the plate that was originally designed to have the "A" sausage on it.

[-] boonhet@sopuli.xyz 3 points 3 weeks ago

This part actually breaks the rule because the B variant is ketchup, not an improved variant of the original

[-] Brkdncr@lemmy.world 6 points 3 weeks ago

I went to Germany not long ago and was surprised by how every restaurant had the same exact menu. Had to find the foreign restaurants to get other flavors.

[-] EfreetSK@lemmy.world 7 points 3 weeks ago

Wait, isn't it like that in other countries also?

In france you have to go to foreign restantrants to get repetitive menus (pizzerias, kebab places, etc)

Comic Strips

23570 readers

Comic Strips is a community for those who love comic stories.

Rules
  1. 😇 Be Nice!

    • Treat others with respect and dignity. Friendly banter is okay, as long as it is mutual; keyword: friendly.
  2. 🏘️ Community Standards

    • Comics should be a full story, from start to finish, in one post.
    • Posts should be safe and enjoyable by the majority of community members, both here on lemmy.world and other instances.
    • Any comic that would qualify as raunchy, lewd, or otherwise draw unwanted attention by nosy coworkers, spouses, or family members should be tagged as NSFW.
    • Moderators have final say on what and what does not qualify as appropriate. Use common sense, and if need be, err on the side of caution.
  3. 🧬 Keep it Real

    • Comics should be made and posted by real human beans, not by automated means like bots or AI. This is not the community for that sort of thing.
  4. 📽️ Credit Where Credit is Due

    • Comics should include the original attribution to the artist(s) involved, and be unmodified. Bonus points if you include a link back to their website. When in doubt, use a reverse image search to try to find the original version. Repeat offenders will have their posts removed, be temporarily banned from posting, or if all else fails, be permanently banned from posting.
    • Attributions include, but are not limited to, watermarks, links, or other text or imagery that artists add to their comics to use for identification purposes. If you find a comic without any such markings, it would be a good idea to see if you can find an original version. If one cannot be found, say so and ask the community for help!
  5. 📋 Post Formatting

    • Post an image, gallery, or link to a specific comic hosted on another site; e.g., the author's website.
    • Meta posts about the community should be tagged with [Meta] either at the beginning or the end of the post title.
    • When linking to a comic hosted on another site, ensure the link is to the comic itself and not just to the website; e.g.,
      ✅ Correct: https://xkcd.com/386/
      ❌ Incorrect: https://xkcd.com/
  6. 📬 Post Frequency/SPAM

    • Each user (regardless of instance) may post up to five (5 🖐) comics a day. This can be any combination of personal comics you have written yourself, or other author's comics. Any comics exceeding five (5 🖐) will be removed.
  7. 🏴‍☠️ Internationalization (i18n)

    • Non-English posts are welcome. Please tag the post title with the original language, and include an English translation in the body of the post; e.g.,
      Sí, por favor [Spanish/Español]
  8. 🍿 Moderation

    • We are human, just like most everybody else on Lemmy. If you feel a moderation decision was made in error, you are welcome to reach out to anybody on the moderation team for clarification. Keep in mind that moderation decisions may be final.
    • When reporting posts and/or comments, quote which rule is being broken, and why you feel it broke the rules.
Banned Artists

The following artists are banned from the community.

  1. Jago
  2. Stonetoss

It should be noted that when you make reports, it is your responsibility to provide rational reasoning why something should be removed. Saying it simply breaks community rules is not always good enough.

Web Accessibility

Note: This is not a rule, but a helpful suggestion.

When posting images, you should strive to add alt-text for screen readers to use to describe the image you're posting:

Another helpful thing to do is to provide a transcription of the text in your images, as well as brief descriptions of what's going on. (example)
