I'm currently suffering at work. Legally they are not obligated to give us 15 minute breaks. We can take "breaks" when there's no chores or customers, and customers can walk in at any time, interrupting the "break".

Hey everyone, I'm back! I've been off-grid for a year and a half bc I got a PhD position and didn't want to lose it due to political background checks against "extremism" during the trial period (obviously these checks mostly got leftists fired -.-). It's about a new way of mathematically tackling nonlinear PDEs and I'm extremely happy with it because I can finally apply my specialist knowledge towards something actually useful, at the forefront of research!

Mostly been bouldering these past few days and doing chores. Weather is finally starting to pick up so can't wait to start riding the bike again. Depression is ever present regardless, but hanging in there.

We have eyes in the front and not in the back because we must leave the past and keep marching forward, Comrade. Depression is a long and tiring journey, but with strength it can be toppled.

just chilling and watching curb your enthusiasm and getting ready to sleep. tomorrow tho i want to watch some courses about mastering lighting in 3d and do some more animations, tbh tho im pretty scared of character animations since it needs a lot of time for it to be good, but i really want to master it so that i can create my short film and other personal projects which i havent for a year. anyways, since i got fired this is what i usually do and its pretty great, since i was overworked when i worked, so im basically on vacation lol

I have never heard of Curb your Enthusiasm until about a month ago when random scenes would pop up on my YT Shorts feed. And then I find out the show has been running since 2000 (!!!). Is it worth watching? Was there any seasons you felt were lacking compared to others?

[-] CommieKhinkali@lemmygrad.ml 3 points 2 days ago

It's absolutely worth watching. Every season is good, but earlier seasons are better. The one problem is that its a liberal zionist show, but palestine/israel only comes up once in the entire show. Its like 8.5/10 for me

sounds like you have the "ideal" libertarian job, have you tried unionizing or smth?

[-] ElegantSocialistLady@lemmygrad.ml 10 points 3 days ago

I work at subway which is considered fast food at the end of the day. Korean law about working by itself is already fucked for office jobs, let alone food and service.

[-] big_spoon@lemmygrad.ml 3 points 2 days ago

Korean law about working

korean

of fug...i'm so sorry you're living in the worst korea, where the "law about working" is basically "let the bougies exploit you as much they can because you're 'truly free' as a semi-slave in an usa outpost rather than a guy in dprk who basically is cannon-fodder for the 'kim royalty'!!"

Relaxing on a day off! Mostly doing chores with my spouse.

A small project, plus uh, subtitling movies stuff, to pass the time.

I love subtitling, whenever I'm in the mood. What kind of project? 👀

[-] deathtoreddit@lemmygrad.ml 6 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Eh a project on Albinism. Just 4-5 pages to write of it.

Currently programming my "cellular automata with n-body gravity" in rust.

The white gradient is formed by the "gravitons", the tan stuff is sand. Right now I've got the gravitons reproducing and passing directional data between each other, what I'm trying to wrap my head around is rotating indices for each simulated cell so that i can make them dynamically "fall" towards the nearest gravity source, rather than always falling towards the bottom of the screen as they do now.

The video wont play ㅠㅠ

[-] Carl@hexbear.net 7 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Here's a shorter, smaller one:

in this one the gradient is multicolored because it shows the direction that gravity is pulling, I'm getting these weird patterns that I can't quite explain, but they're neat.

Watching Olympics. Being Dutch this means watching (speed) skating as it is the only thing we win at. But the upside is that we win nearly everything there.

Planted some new stuff on my balcony garden today. Going for a (mostly) native cottage garden container with a main function of attracting bees and butterflies. I have several other containers with natives and wanted to spice some things up. Also made a bee hotel last week to give them a resting place.

Rest of my time goes to working out.

That's nice. I am afraid that I am too incompetent to keep plants alive, but I hear that succulents are easy to take care of.

[-] big_spoon@lemmygrad.ml 6 points 3 days ago

well...i usually draw stuff, play vidyas, and try to keep refreshing my reading habit. also i'm entering in the thing of posting tiktoks talking about local things with a leftist perspective to counter the excess of rightoid crap

I've been terribly sick for over 10 days already. I'm taking antibiotics now, and mostly staying at home. But I keep getting out from time to time to bring food and other stuff to the indigenous occupation at the local headquarters of Cargill, the American company. The occupation is already 30 days strong with hundreds of people.

Besides that, I've been reading/watching stuff from Cowbee's (now old) study guide. And coughing my lungs out, unfortunately.

The last time I had the flu I was bedridden for what felt like two weeks. Even without a fever, I could not go to work because if I walked from my bed to the bedroom next door, I would get light-headed. I hope you make a speedy recovery now that you're taking antibiotics!

Reading this thread. :P

I've been fiction writing more lately, some novel-length project ideas brewing mostly in my head at this stage, but still haven't nailed down what I want to commit time to. I've long wanted to do a fictional representation of revolutionary struggle that is not, like... derailed by things like liberal idealism, "great man theory" over-emphasis on a "hero" main character, skating over the details and downplaying how much logistical complexity goes into it, using it as a cheap vehicle for a romance plot, stuff like that. Various problems that have plagued me in past story drafts of one concept or another. My standards are probably a bit high, but in general, I want it to be something that inspires and teaches people meaningfully, rather than being so divorced from reality that it might as well be about dragons and magic. Cause if all it's gonna end up as is entertaining, I might as well go for a concept that's easier for me to write than something I've never actually lived through (a successful revolution).

That is interesting. I like to write too, but it is less deep than yours haha. I hope you write something great. I know the hardest part of writing is thinking of what to write about.

[-] amemorablename@lemmygrad.ml 4 points 3 days ago

Thanks, I wish you the best with your writing as well. And yeah, the blank page can really be intimidating, as some people put it. The interesting thing is when I briefly had a job that involved writing, the format of it had me doing more setup on plot and characters than I'd normally tend to do, but I think it also made a difference in allowing me to sort of "improvise on guidelines" rather than get lost in unguided twists and turns.

Chilling by reading mostly, playing some video games.

I'm also mentally preparing for a job interview on tuesday, with four family members coming to help. I guess I'll talk more about it after it happens.

You got this! Fighting!!

Trying to learn how to program in Rust for the upteenth time. It's frankly not even that hard, I just never get to do much with it, since projects are either so unimportant that they can be in Python, or so critical that I need to use something I'm actually sort of an expert in, like C.

[-] Gosplan14_the_Third@hexbear.net 6 points 3 days ago

It's 11 PM on a Saturday. I'm enjoying the only stress free time in the week by watch some old anime.

[-] Gosplan14_the_Third@hexbear.net 5 points 3 days ago

RahXephon. I had seen episode 1 previously and liked it, but put in on a metaphorical shelf for later. That time is now.

[-] REEEEvolution@lemmygrad.ml 4 points 3 days ago

Oh its a good one, basically Neon Genesis Evangelion but with Nahuatl myths instead of Abrahamic ones and a happy ending.

[-] FishLake@lemmygrad.ml 6 points 3 days ago

Just tested both the kids for COVID/FLU A&B. Both came up negative thankfully, but we’ll probably test again tomorrow if they still have fevers. We’re gonna watch Avatar the rest of the afternoon.

The blue kind of the elements kind?

[-] FishLake@lemmygrad.ml 4 points 3 days ago

Good choice! Quench your thirst with cactus juice!!

[-] REEEEvolution@lemmygrad.ml 5 points 3 days ago

Procrastinating late at night. Don't want to sleep yet, nor really up to do something serious.

[-] godlessworm@hexbear.net 5 points 3 days ago

praying you get off work soon comrade.

im just getting litty off the penjamin and chilling. day off so i dont wanna do much else after running errands

[-] Coyoteskull@hexbear.net 5 points 3 days ago

I'm sorry to hear that. Currently I'm hanging out with my wife, watching stuff but already dreading work tomorrow. Need to learn to be more in the moment and leave it behind when I'm not there. Hope your shift goes quickly and easily for you.

I feel that. You enjoy most of your day then you see the time and go "ugh, soon I'll have to sleep for work tomorrow..."

[-] ComradeEd@lemmygrad.ml 4 points 3 days ago

Not going to bed :3

Looking into an april fools I want to do.

Planning two months in advanced?? I respect it

[-] dazaroo@lemmygrad.ml 4 points 3 days ago

Bored and doomscrolling

[-] Maeve@kbin.earth 3 points 3 days ago

Waiting on my hair to dry so I can go to bed. At the time you wrote this, either sauteeing trinity or meat I had in the freezer from Christmas, or at the grocery picking up other things, or pressure cooking the meat, trinity, and other things for dinner. Hopefully have enough to last for several days.
