Why did they make the warning sound and look so cool, then? Clearly nothing bad ever looks and sounds cool! Checkmate, atheists!!

They made the people kicked out of and fighting against this shit look-

People are so deeply entrenched in consumerism that if you tell them that capitalism is killing our own home (a well known fact by now) they will screech at you that communism does not work.

Remember kids, there are only two systems and if you say there aren't you're a communist!

People are sadly afraid of change or the 'unknow' so it is easy do demonise it.

[-] [email protected] 7 points 1 week ago

I think that fear is more of based in American propaganda of Communist countries than consumerism.

It is a connection of both. My parents have lived in the DDR (eastern german). You know what i always hear? "Ohh we had so little". They also fondly talk of the times they got presents from the west.

No, they do not talk about how they did not have free speech (they did not). No, they don't talk about how you could not trust your neithbours,as they could be from the 'Staatssicherheit' (Secret Police) They rarely talk about they fact they were not allowed to cross the border, which they now can do without thinking about it. It always the lack of consumer goods that gets them talking.

And i noticed this about my self too. Always consuming. Food, drinks, information, entertainment... The fear of losing that chance at consumption whenever you feel like it, seems huge.

Thanks for the perspective!

Well, I would argue, that communism is authoritarian by nature, I would prefer socialism, but fuck it, at this point, I would prefer anything to the current shitshow In most countries.

I... I dont jniw where to start correcting you, but I'm 100% with you on the last bit.

[-] [email protected] 3 points 1 week ago

hey, it might interest you that not all communist ideology is authoritarian, despite the majority of self described communist today probably being authoritarians.

in its core communism is very compatible with libertarian thought and even libertairian by nature, which is for example reflected in anarcho-communism.

if you would genuinely like to learn more about this, i can recommend this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dAB-sBjq8E8.

Moderator Guidelines

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.
