I'm for a wealth tax, but it makes a heck of a lot more sense to tax gifts and inheritance than try to keep track of the largest and most complicated wealth portfolios in Canada.

Wild. I thought this would happen. He tried putting on the tariffs with a flimsy reasoning (fentanyl) and since in reality there is no fentanyl problem coming from Canada they were deemed illegal.

All he needs to do is get congress to pass this. They have a majority in both houses, if you want these tariffs, do it the proper way.

That's funny. When I learned french in school, I learned the formal vous and when I went to talk to actual people they would get caught off guard and confused by me using the plural you instead of singular. It did not serve me well in the real world.

The same was true about anglicismes. We learned not to use any anglicismes, but then if you go to Quebec it is part of the language.

Any suggestions for paid one time purchase apps on the Google play store?

Canadians don't like buying things made in China despite buying the majority of our goods from China.

I haven't seen a thread on this in a while. I have been going with top day for a while, but it can be hit or miss. Other sorts don't seem to display as good in terms of balancing quality and quantity. What is your preferred sort for your main feed?

Edit: Realizing that the people who sort new commented before the hot/top/active people, haha

Then it's a good time to raise the capital gains tax inclusion rate! Smart policy.

I feel like the CPC is trying to import the American constant election news cycle to Canada.

The first thing that comes to mind is a big plastic bin filled with burnt burgers for 4 for a dollar.

Edit: I guess I was thinking more prepared/restaurant food.

The extensibility and transparency has always been the big ones for me. It is such a pain not being able to dig into exactly how a program works. Documentation is ok but open code is infinitely better.

I'm curious what products and services everyone uses. I like trying out new services, but it seems like the big banks are pretty effective at squashing competition.

I'll go first: Chequing - BMO Savings - Wealthsimple Investing - Questrade with Passiv Credit cards - BMO, Costco, Amazon

I have tried Brim (credit card) and Koho (kind of a chequing account), but eventually dropped them because they couldn't effectively replace BMO.

I'm interested to know everyone's experiences with their banks and other financial service providers.

Edit: This thread has been amazing! Thanks for all the replies!

Why is this sub just CBC news stories? Does a bot add them all? They are mostly empty with no comments. Makes for a strange feed.

Edit: I think I just need to figure out which way to sort my feed. Sorting by hot gives me almost all CBC.

Edit 2: CBC is great. I am commenting on the state of c/Canada, not the quality of CBC
