Donald Trump said Sunday that if no peace deal is reached with Iran in the next 48 hours, "we're blowing up the entire country."

The president made the threat Sunday to ABC News' senior political correspondent Rachel Scott in response to a question regarding whether his previously stated timeline of two to three weeks for a deal was still accurate.

Concerns have been raised about targeting civilian infrastructure in Iran and the consequences that could bring.

Imo he has been looking for any excuse to launch a nuclear bomb since he first became president. I don't even think he cares why, how, or who he ends up using it on, even if it's his own people. As long as he gets to use his ultimate power as president and press that big button. And as long as he isn't personally affected he won't even give it a second thought.

I firmly believe he WILL nuke someone before his term is up if nobody stops him. I firmly believe people have already stopped him before.

there is no big button that trump presses, that is the myth. the suitcase being carried with him, for some strange reason called nuclear football, is basically just a sat-phone that connects him to some joint chiefs operations center. from there, there is a long chain of command leading to some soldiers in silo somewhere, who actually have the button. anyone in that chain of command can still say no and break the chain.

He wants to be remembered, and he knows that there's only one reason people remember Truman

I think I'd prefer he bombed a hurricane.

He is the only person stupid enough to do it. I feel they'll carpet bomb Teheran or something like that first, but since the army of Iran is decentralized it won't do much. It would be a great excuse for the martial law in US if he drops a nuke. His insanity and the death cult around him makes him so fucking dangerous. Hegseth did a purge in the army, if they have only yes men left they will have no pushback from them.

Israel is the only one reckless enough to do it actually.

[-] oh_@lemmy.world 4 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago)

Problem is, Trump is listening to Israel.

Listening is a charitable way to put it. The president is the bitch of, he is being blackmailed by, would be more accurate.

Nevertheless, even he wouldn't nuke them right now, Israel would. What the president would do, is bomb their nuclear reactors making a dirty bomb of sorts.

Israel is pushing the envelope with the genocide, they have like 90 nukes, they are probably waging if they can get away with it.

Uh, interesting (and horrifying) theory. I wonder how his bootlicking allies would explain that away. Like Germany's Merz going "we have to evaluate first whether dropping a nuclear bomb really constitutes a war crime. Maybe it was warranted and he had good reasons to do it" and then just never speak of it again and pretend everything's fine.

That’s exactly my thought too. And it makes me feel upset when I know there’s no one there to prevent him.
