GBoard exists on iPhone too, but I can tell you it doesn't work as seamlessly as on Pixel. The keyboard is the one weak point on the iPhone that I miss from Android.
Funnily enough, it used to be the other way around.
A place for Apple news, rumors, and discussions.

Agreed. As an ex-Android user of 15 years, iPhone's keyboard is actually fucking horrible. I switched it on my first day with Microsoft SwiftKey.
i think its also ridiculous that you can't show the nunbers row above the letters, its possible with android screen real estate, yet apple cant even put it on the regular ipads with 10.9" screen... you need an ipad pro for that (which has 11" screen)
I’d say I’m used to it, but man I do remember Android having a wayyy better keyboard experience overall. They just recently brought back key vibrations on iPhone, which it feels horrible to not have. Would love if they had an option for the strength of the keyboard vibes. The layout is very whatever to me I can work with it.
Disagree. I hate key vibrations
Don’t active them then. Having the option is always nice.
You say just recently, but I swear it's been around for years now. When did it go away and come back?
The period next to the space bar only appears in Safari, I don’t see how that’s such a big deal to you. It is annoying as hell, but just how often are you typing things in Safari? There’s no period next to space in iMessage or Reddit or any other non-browser app that I can think of. Weird how you titled your post “its keyboard is shockingly bad” and then you go on to mention one tiny thing that doesn’t make the keyboard as a whole bad.
This is my thought. Occasionally it will think it's a new TLD but for the most part, it will still search and I am sure all of the major search engines assume this is happening.
Yeah exactly. Personally I set my search engine to DuckDuckGo, but I still use Google 99% of the time by starting my search with !g, so even if I hit a few periods, my search usually goes through fine.
I use Google keyboard in iPhone and honestly it's leaguesbetter
Well thats true, i am both using s21 ultra and iPhone 15 pro.max, and i gonna say, the keyboard in iPhone isn't great that i have downloaded gboard and used it on my iPhone
I think I must be the only person who actually enjoys the iPhone keyboard. I have been using it for so long that it feels really natural to me. I barely ever have any typos and it actually corrects what I type wrong. It is very responsive and smooth in my experience
Just switched as well and completely agree. Apple wtf.

I use SwiftKey. It has bugs still (like the ios keyboard popping up instead of SwiftKey) but other than that, it's a great replacement to the default keyboard.
Third party keyboards are ok, I use Gboard and it's not as cool as it is on Android but still fine for daily use. Like any other shortcomings on iOS, it'll get fixed when Apple decides they want to fix it.
The advantage of Apple is that everything is designed under one roof and this usually results in stability and reliability across all their devices. Little details like being able to unlock my MacBook using my Apple Watch work absolutely no additional setup are pretty cool.
The disadvantage of Apple is that everything is designed under one roof and this sometimes results in infuriating decisions that you can't do much about. Searching is a mess. The App Library is basically unusable for me because it organizes based on use so things are always in a different spot when i look for them.
Jailbreaking has become MUCH harder since you were last in the Apple universe too. Most of the features we used to jailbreak for are built in now.....but not all.
I agree the keyboard is crappy, and if you use slide typing it’s absolute crap. The period placement is a huge pet peeve. I think it affects right handed people more than left handed - just anecdotally, but I could be wrong.
Gboard…I tried it many times over the years and more recently with my iPhone 15. My experience is that it’s worse than the Apple keyboard. I use slide typing heavily, and daily use two languages. Gboard…is cumbersome in my case because it relies solely on guessing the words you’re typing, and because multiple languages are all a hodgepodge in one single keyboard pot (aka with Gboard you don’t explicitly switch languages) the autocorrect gets in the way a lot. Also when long pressing a key to choose a special character like ă, the delay is way too long. So I went back to the devil I know.
Go to settings-general-keyboard and untick the “.” shortcut, atleast you get rid of the annoying period on the right side this way
I can recommend SwiftKey
oh yeah we know.
FYI, coming from android you must love customization (i did atleast) and you can actually make your phone unique by using tools such as cowbunga lite ( Cause your on ios 17 probably ) and flux which are tools to customize your phone without the disadvantages of a jailbreak
Been there done that, from pixel to iphone >gboard>swiftkey
Single worst thing about iPhone imo. And even Swiftkey somehow is almost complete ass on it compared to Android.
apple’s stock keyboard is boring
Use swiftkey. It's close enough
I.love.it
i guess it depends what ur used to, any time i get an android i try and make the layout like ios lol
Word! I miss very few things about android but my keyboard is one, I know I can add other keyboards but they just don’t function right 🤷♂️
Prepare your heart for the final boss, that is the calculator
Just use Fleksy Keyboard. It's the best all around. Mostly because you can really quickly add new words to your dictionary. So it makes it easy to type in multiple languages at the same time or use specific terminology.
It's also much faster and accurate, than swipe based keyboards
So on your app store, search/download"Gboard". Open the app, follow the instructions. Gboard is 100% is a better keyboard than the original ios keyboard
Oh my god thank you for posting this, I had NO CLUE iPhone brought keyboard haptics back!!! Feels so much better now, +1 to OP
My only complaint is that it doesn't have a built in clipboard.
I think the issue is with the return key, which is normally a big key and people got used to clicking the left part of the key to press return. However, on Safari, that return key is split into full stop and return key and people subconsciously click that full stop thinking of return key.
For me iPhone keyboard is hundred times better than Samsung or Google.. I don’t know why I hate keyboards in Android phones..
It was good four or five years ago but for some reason, Apple changed it.

Sometimes I wonder if I’m too lucky with the one good iPhone 14pro that was made cuz damn, the things people complain about…
Funny. I really enjoy the iPhone keyboard. The Android keyboard drove me crazy lol
I just want a GBoard like from Android on iPhone. The GBoard offered is not the same. I miss it on my pixel. Alas, here we are.
I use swiftkey on iPhone. The stock keyboard is borderline unusable.
