I wanted to share my in-progress TTRPG enhancement project, The Gold Box

Video: The Gold Box demonstrates its functionality by absolutely smoking the player in a skeleton ambush.

My eventual goal is to enable fully single player play of any adventure for any TTRPG in Foundry VTT - and along the way, the many capabilities of the program will make it a powerful "oracle"-style GM for your roleplaying group, an assistant for your GM, or the brains for a "DMPC" in a group that could use an extra player.

Right now, The Gold Box can interact in chat, roll dice (ACTUALLY roll them and react to the results, not simulate the roll itself), read character sheets/stats and modify them, create and delete combat encounters, and advance the turn order in an ongoing encounter, enough to make it capable of running a simple combat or roleplaying an NPC outside of it.

The Gold Box requires no special account setup and sends your data to nobody that you don't tell it to, and has been built from the ground up with privacy and security in mind. It is also totally free to use.

You can configure it for both remote and local LLMs, although to get the most functionality you will need a function-capable model with at least 12k tokens of context. I recommend GLM-4.7 via z.ai as the cheapest way to get the necessary performance, although there is also a "legacy mode" that can enable it to work with basic chat functionality on small local models. I've run chats with NPCs and generated descriptions with llama3.2:3b

I'd love it if any interested people here gave it a try and gave me feedback on it. Right now I'm working on the problem of spatial awareness on the game board and enabling token movement by the LLM, but I'm always interested in improving features that aren't up to snuff or add features that people seem to want.

I am undecided about this universe. I like the tone, the concept (the world will end soon) but I find the system heavy.

A few weeks ago I have found a very nice jam on itch.io called Road Trip Game Jam 2025 which was really inspiring and chill. At the time there were already a lot of really good little video games. I decided to hop on and try to submit something physical instead and ~~many coffees later~~ my solo TTRPG Focus on the Road was born.

It's a chill game about driving across a big country, meeting interesting people and visiting some cool landmarks. You will take some pictures of your new friends and visited places using an instant camera and try to continue your trip before the gas tank is empty. As many solo RPGs it's not really a game you can win or lose, it is mostly a tool to narrate a cool story while listening to some old rock music. The main mechanic is interacting with any hitchhikers you might take with you, trying to find a good discussion topic, listening to the radio together, etc. It's absolutely non-violent, features no cigarettes, drugs or booze and has been designed to be as chill as I was when designing it. Oh, and it's free and features only creative common art. Hope you might enjoy it!

Hey guys!

Yesterday i became aware that you can now create "gems" in gemini. I uploaded a copy of my Ironsworn - Sundered Islands rulebook, and tested it a little. It functions okay with writing detailed descriptions of the outcome of the moves, and offers helpful ideas. It's wonderful at looking up tables and rules if needed.

Where it was a little wonky - and i didn't expect this - was dice rolling and math. When starting out, it misunderstood how challenge dice and rolling for moves should work, but after that, it kept screwing up adding modifiers to dice, or said "strong hit" for a roll that was a weak hit.

All in all though, i was fairly satisfied with it. I enjoyed the narrative descriptions, and it was nice to focus on where i wanted the story to go and have "somebody" to throw ideas at.

I'm trying out Mythic Game Master Emulator with Dungeon World. I've only done a few sessions of game setup but I'm already very impressed with the GME. I'd love to hear from you if you have thoughts or questions about solo roleplaying in general, Mythic in particular, or even just tabletop roleplaying in general.

Head over to https://rpg.grapesoda.games/dw for the journal entries so far!

After never having considered the idea of solo roleplaying before I stumbled across Mythic GME and it has become my new hyper fixation. Not only is it a blast to play solo, but I can't wait to use it to help me run my home game. My wife and I also spent several hours the other evening playing a Traveller session using Mythic as our guide. What a blast! :D

I was just working on my current Ironsworn story at work, and I suddenly wondered about whether I considered it to be personal or private, or how I would feel if someone started watching over my shoulder. It made me think if I would roleplay differently if I knew someone else was watching or would read the story later.

How do you feel about your solo roleplays? Are they private, deeply personal stories or would you be happy showing them to other people?

I think this TTRPG series is based off of some books?

A free extract from the official core book of the RPG:

The Domestic is an introductory scenario designed for one player, based on Ben Aaronovitch’s short story of the same name. Choose to play as a magic-wielding police officer, nurse, or social worker in a game set in the world of Ben Aaronovitch’s hugely successful Rivers of London series.

Armed with this book, a pencil, and some roleplaying dice, you are ready to take on your first case for the Folly. No GM needed!

I am currently researching some oracles for new game. I know the Muses & Oracles but it's a French one. And I can't find the equivalent in English.

So on a larger question: Which Oracle would you recommend?

This is a new add-on for Vaesen. Did anybody bought it already?

I am really curious to know if this is the start of a recognition of a market niche of solo players.

Not actually an RPG (a space game actually), but it has lots of RPG elements - equipment, level system, skills, skill trees, quests&quest lines...

Lately I've been using solo play tools more and more in my prep. For example instead of just pulling a town out of my imagination or from a bunch of tools. I've (mainly) used Ironsworn to solo play some episodes in that town. Creating details about it as I've gone along. Also used Artefact (more of a journaling game) with good effect to create legendary items. To get into the Glorantha setting, get into the "right" mindset, the solo choose-you-own-adventure I've found great.

But I'm always looking for new tools to, if nothing else, get new perspectives on things. My default Ironsworn is leaning kinda heavily into more perilous and grim episodes.

Happy for any and all recommendations!

My First Solo RPG Let's Play (thewanderingbardplays.wordpress.com)

So… for a while I’ve wanted to a) try and get into RPGs more and b) try my hand at creative writing…

The consequence of that is I’m having a go at a solo journal based rpg and I decided to blog it!

Check it out - let me know what you think? Feedback greatly appreciated!

This is a miniature pocketfold Oracle for solo RPGs.

It features a Fate Check that is easy to read, intuitive to understand, and doesn't require any math, modifiers, or state. It also features a small but complete set of 1d10 tables that provide a large variety of inspiration for playing out your solo game.

Inside you will find the following, all on a single page:

  • Fate Check for answering Yes/No questions
  • Quest Generator and Scene Generators
  • Random Events
  • Immersion Events
  • Challenge and DC generation
  • Pay the Price for failed challenges
  • Properties / Details / History tables for adding flavor to something
  • Random Object / Treasure Generator
  • NPC Behaviors, including conversation topics and combat
  • Dungeon Generator with Encounters
  • Hex Crawl Generator with Encounters and Weather
  • Name Generators for NPCs
  • Settlement Names and Establishments

In addition, there are Meaning Tables for:

  • Verbs / Adjectives / Nouns
  • People / Occupations
  • Locations
  • Events
  • Creatures
  • Traps

This should be everything you need to build and experience an adventure! Instructions are included in the PDF.
