This is an idea I’ve been toying with for a bit. There is a ton of media that includes unimportant information that doesn’t need to be stored pixel perfect. Storing large portions of the image data as text will save substantial amounts of storage, and as the reality of on-device image generation becoming commonplace sets in digital memories will become the main way people capture the world around them. I think this will inevitably be the next form of media capture (photography and video), not replacing other methods/ formats, but I could see things like phone cameras having saving images as digital memories set to default to save on storage.

The Federal Communications Commission has approved a new set of rules aiming to prevent “digital discrimination.” It means the agency can hold telecom companies accountable for digitally discriminating against customers — or giving certain communities poorer service (or none at all) based on income level, race, or religion.

TBH I have a mixed feeling about this.

To the surprise of no one, these things that probabilistically generate strings of text make shit up. Sure it's biased towards previously written strings of words which are hopefully true but no reason something "correctish" can't be shit out.

In a surprising move, Apple has announced today that it will adopt the RCS (Rich Communication Services) messaging standard. The feature will launch via a software update “later next year” and bring a wide range of iMessage-style features to messaging between iPhone and Android users.

Apple’s decision comes amid pressure from regulators and competitors like Google and Samsung. It also comes as RCS has continued to develop and become a more mature platform than it once was.

I have a Nvidia TitanX in my HTPC, which is known for its high heat output, and it keeps overheating when I play 3D games. The case has two intake fans on one side and two exhaust fans on the other, but lacks ventilation on the top panel. I'm tired of the random shutdowns during game play and was wondering if anyone had any recommemdations for a more efficient GPU.
