Offseason time waster: Which FBS schools have the most appropriate mascots? Many schools are the tigers, or the eagles, or some other completely generic mascot. Some schools have very unique mascots, but it doesn't really mean much in terms of a clear association with the school.

So which schools have the best mascots that are unique to and really represent their school, state, or region?

I'll start an incomplete list in no particular order with no justification for any of it. You figure it out and argue about it.

  • Ohio St
  • Tennessee
  • Indiana
  • Texas
  • Utah
  • Florida
  • Miami
  • UNC
  • ECU
  • Nebraska
  • WVU

Fellow degenerates, scholars, and sufferers of the long, dark off-season,

It has now been 40 days since we last witnessed a 19-year-old make a terrible decision that changes the trajectory of an entire fanbase's mental health, and I fear I may not survive until Week 1. The symptoms of off-season delirium have fully set in:

  • I spent three hours watching a 2014 MACtion game on YouTube, and it was the happiest I’ve been since my team last won a bowl game (which, unfortunately, was not recently).
  • I booed my neighbor while they fertilized their grass just to feel something.
  • I got into a heated debate with my uncle over whether Iowa corn is objectively superior to Nebraska corn.
  • I stood in the middle of a field and screamed, "RUN THE DAMN BALL!"—which actually helped the corn grow (take notes, Nebraska).
  • I attempted to tailgate my nephew’s Little League game, and apparently, "you can’t just grill an entire hog in a public park without a permit."
  • I spent 45 minutes watching corn combine videos because it was the closest thing I could find to a B1G West (RIP) offense.
  • I attempted to ring a cowbell through an entire work meeting in honor of Mississippi State. Nobody appreciated it.
  • I spent way too much time in a YouTube rabbit hole watching 2007 highlights, just to remember when college football was pure, stupid, and chaotic.
  • I watched an old Nebraska game just to remember what it was like when they mattered.

I am NOT OKAY.

If this drought continues, I fear I will turn to dangerous levels of NFL Draft discourse or—God forbid—pretending to like baseball. I CANNOT LET THIS HAPPEN.

So, I come to you, my fellow college football junkies: How are you surviving? Are you deep into the Film Breakdown Phase? Have you convinced yourself Matt Patricia was a good hire? Have you been sucked into the dark abyss of "Is (Insert Random Coach) On The Hot Seat?" discourse? Have you considered which Warhammer 40k Space Marine Legion Hugh Freeze would be?!

Or are you, like me, standing in a field somewhere, staring into the distance, wondering if Nebraska will ever elect a secretary of agriculture that prioritizes Husker Football.

Tell me your off-season coping mechanisms before I start watching old WAC games and convince myself South Carolina is winning the national championship.

Sincerely,

A Desperate Fan Who Just Needs a Third and Seven Play-Action Pass to Live Again

“A key element of the merger was maintaining sports teams at two different NCAA divisions. However, regulations necessitate separate processes for athletic financial aid distribution and prohibit the sharing of resources and sports facilities, resulting in fewer synergies in those areas than originally anticipated.”

Which year did your CFB team have a season that on paper was good but if you put it under a microscope you look back on it poorly?

Here’s my example as an FSU fan: 2012

On paper this was a solid 12-2 record w/first ACC championship since 2005 and an Orange Bowl victory.

However there is multiple reasons why I look back on it poorly:

  1. We had an extremely easy schedule with lots of returning players and a senior QB coming back. (National title or bust)
  2. One of our losses was to a mediocre NC State team in which we blew a 16-3 lead because Jimbo decided to go ULTRA conservative early on
  3. The other was to the gators; at the time I was an 8th grader and had a ton of gator friends, ALL were obnoxious about their team.
  4. The ACC championship was against GT who was 6-6 and we won 21-15 (super unimpressive)
  5. Forced to play Northern Illinois in Orange Bowl.
  6. I respect EJ Manuel as a commentator and leader. But he drove me nut playing the QB position (Zero pocket awareness)

Thankfully we won it all with Winston the next year

The stadium exterior post got me thinking about how Sanford Stadium is situated in a way that it stays relatively hidden on UGA's campus. If you've never been to Athens, the campus is built up on both sides of a valley with the stadium in the middle at the bottom of the valley. This leads to a set-up where unless you're in the middle of campus right next to the stadium you really wouldn't even know it's there.

But I know many other campuses (particularly those that are on more flat land) have stadiums that dominate the landscape. Which style is your school's stadium and which style do you prefer?

Original Title: Dellinger on Big 12 PE- This is a capital proposal, not equity. A report last summer about the Big 12’s pursuit of a private equity deal with CVC was premature. That deal never reached the final stage because of hangups. CVC is not part of the group of finalists, sources tell @YahooSports.

Original Title: [Dellenger] Big 12 presidents & ADs today reviewed bids from three finalists in the league’s pursuit of a capital partner, sources tell @YahooSports. Firms are proposing to infuse millions to schools. RedBird Capital has emerged as the leader. A decision is expected in the coming weeks.

Who has the most aesthetically-pleasing stadium exterior? And I don't mean including the surrounding geography, like LaVell Edwards or Husky Stadium. Which stadium's exterior architecture is the most aesthetically-pleasing?

Am I too blinded by bias to suggest it might be Doak Campbell?

The University of Idaho's Kibbie Dome is pretty well-known, but I recently learned about that state's other domed cfb stadium: Idaho State University's ICCU Dome. It's apparently the oldest domed football stadium? Photos of it look quite unique.

What's it like in there? Loud? Stuffy? Drafty? Are there echoes? Do fans love it or hate it?

Coach Fusco passed away last Saturday (Feb 22nd). Former player, coach, & AD for Westminster College (PA). From 1972-1990, had a 154-34-3 record and led the Titans to 4 NAIA Division II national titles in 9 playoff appearances.

JJ Joe was the longtime radio color analyst and a Baylor HOF quarterback. He was also the first player whose name I knew as a little kid.

If I recall correctly, he also proposed to his wife on the scoreboard during senior day. Just an all-around great dude and we'll miss him a lot.
