If you're investing in stocks and using an index fund you may be funding Tesla. I would recommend seeing if there's an option to use a similar index fund but exclude TSLA.

This website has some information on others ways to divest from Tesla and call and email people to encourage others to do likewise.

It's not possible to "doxx" ICE agents. They are not secret agents, they are people who we the taxpayers paid for and their names are either public record or if they are not public record really ought to be.

People in Georgia have been protesting everyday for over a year (406+ days) but for whatever reason it's not currently getting much media coverage likely because the media tends to not report on reoccurring protests.

There's more information about the protests on the Wikipedia article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2024%E2%80%932026_Georgian_protests

Basically they're protesting due to election fraud, democratic backsliding and protesting against pro-Russia policies, they want to be aligned with the EU.

Note that this originally happened in 2020 during Trump's first term. Justice is sometimes slow.

I really hope the stadiums are totally empty. We must not repeat the mistakes of the 1936 Olympics. Boycott the world cup and also boycott all their sponsors and advertisers and demand they pull their ads and stop funding FIFA which is a totally corrupt organization.

I accidentally posted this: https://lemmy.zip/post/56692643 because I made a mistake while checking to see if anyone posted it already so I immediately hit delete after I saw it was "crossposted".

However I still saw the post on Zip and other instances like World and ML so I then hit hide post and it seemed to fix the problem on Zip but not yet other instances.

Is the issue that I just need to be patient for it to federate or am I misunderstanding these features? My assumption would be deleting the post would make it go away for everyone but perhaps people or maybe just moderators and myself could still see the post by clicking on my profile which is fine with me, I just wanted to delete it since the same article was just posted a day ago.

I'm very sorry I searched for the title and didn't get any results so I posted it thinking no one did but then it showed me "crossposted" and I realized someone already posted it here. I've attempted to delete this post but the deletion may not have made it to your instance so I would highly recommend taking the discussion to where it's already been posted instead of commenting here.

I believe the world is facing a new threat: disinformation and cognitive and psychological warefare. Russia is already doing it. They call it "new generation warfare".

The article describes it best:

"the Russian view of modern warfare is based on the idea that the main battlespace is the mind and, as a result, new-generation wars are to be dominated by information and psychological warfare, ... morally and psychologically depressing the enemy’s armed forces personnel and civil population. The main objective is to reduce the necessity for deploying hard military power to the minimum necessary."

Now Europe is facing another threat. The United States.

The NSS says "Cultivating resistance to Europe’s current trajectory within European nations".

I don't know for sure how they will do it but I suspect it could be similar to what Russia does. Things like online trolls and bots brainwashing vulnerable people.

So I'm calling for action: please contact your politicians and warn them about this and warn everyone you can. Demand media literacy education and classes designed to foster critical thinking skills, mitigate the harm caused by social media, encourage emotional resiliency and strength, encourage conflict resolution skills. I singled these out because I notice that those who are weak in these skills are more vulnerable. This is by no means a silver bullet but I hope that experts can also look into how to deal with psychological warfare and by making it an issue more people are aware of hopefully we can do everything we can to stop it.

Also you can make a difference yourself. Block and report trolls and people who regularly share disinformation on social media, call out those who unintentionally shared disinformation. Ideally trolls would be blocked shunned as opposed to people being drained/tricked by them. Also do what you can to give the gift of media literacy to others. This website has three different tests you can try for disinformation: https://guides.lib.uchicago.edu/c.php?g=1241077&p=9082320

I would also recommend reading this article here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cognitive_warfare

I strongly suggest if you work for a company and you have the option to join a union please do! If the company you work for is non-union consider being a leader and push for unionization.

The dues may be small but they make a big difference for worker's rights and are worth it. You have people dedicated to fighting for your pay and your rights and rights of all workers.

Also part of the reason Democrats are not winning as much is because Unions used to support them, now there is less funding.

☹️ I'm terribly sorry I've administered 10 times the recommended dose 💊 and killed 🪦 the patient. I know this was a terrible mistake and I'm deeply sorry.

🎶 Would you like me to turn my apology into a rap song? I can also generate a dank meme to express how sorry I am.

And if you are american: fucking fix your government

I try everyday and I will not give up until it's fixed.

Your government could end up more like mine if the AfD takes power so I urge you and all Germans to fight that with everything you got. It's terrifying here and I really don't want other people to have to go through what we're going through so please take action now.

One threat that I believe people in Europe are not taking seriously enough is foreign interference in your elections from our Oligarchs like Elon Musk and our government. Trump's so-called National Security Strategy explicitly calls for interfering in EU countries and the Heritage Foundation (the organization who planned much of Trump's second term) has explicitly called for eliminating the EU.

Please consider these actions to immunize yourself and your country from us:

  1. Stop using Twitter, Meta products, TikTok and Reddit. These companies all have owners who are sympathetic to the Trump regime or in the case of Twitter it's way worse. I'm personally a big advocate for Bluesky for replacing Twitter and of course goes without saying I really hope Lemmy can fully replace Reddit.

  2. Educate people on how to recognize disinformation and propaganda. This should be taught in school along with classes to mitigate the harmful effects caused by social media. Classes should hopefully cultivate skills like emotional regulation, critical thinking and conflict resolution because cognitive warfare is more successful against people who are weak in these skills.

  3. Try resolving people's frustrations and social differences without them turning towards the far-right. This is part of how Trump got into power some people feel unhappy and vulnerable so the far-right takes advantage of them. I don't understand this well but I've read that part of the AfD's popularity has to do with unresolved differences between East and West Germany. If I'm wrong here or misunderstanding I apologize.

  4. If applicable campaign finance reform especially to restrict foreign money. I suspect Germany is way better than America here but if this is a risk please fix as soon as possible.

  5. Consider simulating what would happen if the AfD were to take power almost like the way a pentester tests software. Figure out what vulnerabilities in your government the AfD could exploit and solve them before they take power. This is really important because for Trump you can think of him almost like a hacker except he's not breaking into computer systems, he's exploiting vulnerabilities in both humans and our government doing things like declaring fake emergencies.

Obviously this is by no means a complete list. I'm sure there's a lot to do.

Those "resort fees" were part of Biden's FTC's efforts to crack down on junk fees. Trump is now undoing that work. https://www.investopedia.com/trump-has-undone-biden-s-war-on-junk-fees-11772720

Maybe that wasn't the best word but if someone is MAGA they're in general not very principled because they just accept whatever Trump does even when it goes against what past prominent conservatives did or said.

For example conservatives at-least said for a long time they were strong supporters of free speech but as soon as Trump started attacking free speech a lot of them fell in line. But for example maybe some on r/conservative would say I thought we supported free speech and then the posts would get deleted leaving only those in the MAGA cult left.

Don't invade other countries. Don't interfere with other countries' elections. Considering Russia helped Trump get elected twice and tried three times I'm very angry at them.

[-] BoycottTwitter@lemmy.zip 52 points 1 month ago

With the Trump regime this should be a firm NO.

Is there anyone we can contact to voice our opposition to this?

[-] BoycottTwitter@lemmy.zip 54 points 1 month ago

Well then, time to shut down your Meta account if you still have one. Also do likewise for TikTok and Twitter.

[-] BoycottTwitter@lemmy.zip 86 points 1 month ago

Remember when Republicans (pretended) to support free speech?

If you want change you got to direct your comments to the HDMI forum. Here we can talk about it forever and if they never see anything they won't change. I sent the following email to: admin@hdmiforum.org

Dear HDMI Forum,

I was recently saw the news that the HDMI forum was blocking open source implementations of the HDMI 2.1 specifications and I want to express that I really believe this is a bad idea. I hope the HDMI Forum will consider allowing it. I can't say I understand what the concern is or the reason for blocking it but I really doubt that whatever issue is envisioned will actually come to fruition, instead I believe that allowing open source implementations will be beneficial for adoption of the standard and since if I understand correctly the licensing fees are based on hardware sold so having open source code will of course not exempt anyone from HDMI licensing rules.

Thank you so much for your consideration,

(Name)

Maybe it's not perfect (I already wished I worded one sentence better) but I think what matters most is just trying your best and using your voice whenever you can. Be sure to send your email too, the more they receive hopefully the higher the chances that this works but of course be sure to use your own wording, I just put that here for an example.
