These aimless embargos have been awful for Cuba and it’s people, and gone on for too long.
Obama introduced the Cuba Thaw in 2014 which began normalizing relations with Cuba. He was first U.S. president to visit Cuba since Calvin Coolidge, in 1928. On April 14, 2015, the Obama administration announced that Cuba would be removed from the United States State Sponsors of Terrorism list. Cuba was officially removed from the list on May 29, 2015.
On June 16, 2017, President Donald Trump stated that he was "canceling" the Obama administration's deals with Cuba. On November 8, 2017, it was announced by the Trump administration that restrictions which were loosened by the Obama administration would resume.
In 2022, the Biden administration announced new changes that reversed Trump's measures.
Only two republican congressional legislators have endorsed easing relations and lifting the embargo. Jeff Flake and Rand Paul.
Younger Americans overwhelmingly support lifting the embargo, while older Americans tend to be against it, especially older Cuban Americans.
