Firefox + ublock and sponsorblock still work
Yeah I haven't had any problems, yet. Let's hope it stays that way
Firefox + unlock origin on mobile still works....
yewtu.be because its easy to remember browser extension on pc, on phone i have two shortcuts to instances with esoteric names
thanks!
mpv can stream youtube videos using yt-dlp
on the fly if you want to go ultra minimalist.
redirect.invidious.io can be used to preface youtube video links so that it's instance agnostic.
If you use Android, Newpipe is a must have application.
thank you! i have revanced, which still works fine. i will be using redirect.
different piped instance helped a lot for me tbf
thank you!
Use FreeTube: https://freetubeapp.io/
I just discovered FreeTube because of your comment and I am already loving it. It feels so close to stock YouTube without all of the nonfree JS and algorithm shenanigans. Great mention.
flatpak install flathub io.freetubeapp.FreeTube
Also you can finally have subscriptions without an account. It's great!
Also FYI, I've had some issues (slow loading videos etc) with the release sometimes, but the nightly build always works.
Do you have ublock origin? It’s extremely simple to get around it. Provided you have the most recent version and no custom filters, just go in to manage settings, find “quick fixes,” and update (press the little clock and the update now). Easy as. You will need to do this once a day, but it’s so easy I have no problem with that.
There are video instructions on the pinned post on the ublock origin subreddit.
oh, ok. well that's easy
Newpipe is good
fadblock on firefox works
i just disable it so the video loads and then just turn it on again, and when i got to another video i dont get the youtube notice anymore and continue as usual with no ads as long i dont make another tab
My ublock works ok, just can't scroll down to comments. I have this in my filters:
youtube.com##+js(set, yt.config_.openPopupConfig.supportedPopups.adBlockMessageViewModel, false)
youtube.com##+js(set, Object.prototype.adBlocksFound, 0)
youtube.com##+js(set, ytplayer.config.args.raw_player_response.adPlacements, [])
youtube.com##+js(set, Object.prototype.hasAllowedInstreamAd, true)

fwiw I haven't gotten the anti adblock thing myself so I can't look, but usually they'll put just an overflow="hidden"
attribute on the body tag (you can check with inspect element), so it might be possible to just reenable scrolling by removing the attribute/changing it back to overflow="scroll"
with Stylus or sth
I appreciate that but honestly no scrolling is an improvement though.
extremely fair lmfao
It's interesting how much I catch myself trying to scroll down and then being like "why though? it'll be crap" because of this inability.
Although I just figured out that if I fullscreen and un-fullscreen the video, scrolling works. So I basically have blocking with full functionality now.
I installed this script a few days ago in conjunction with ublock and haven't gotten a notification since.

libre
Welcome to libre
A comm dedicated to the fight for free software with an anti-capitalist perspective.
The struggle for libre computing cannot be disentangled from other forms of socialist reform. One must be willing to reject proprietary software as fiercely as they would reject capitalism. Luckily, we are not alone.

Rules
- Be on topic: Posts should be about free software and other hacktivst struggles. Topics about general tech news should be in the technology comm or programming comm. That doesn't mean all posts have to be serious though, memes are welcome!
- Avoid using misleading terms/speading misinformation: Here's a great article about what those words are. In short, try to avoid parroting common Techbro lingo and topics.
- Avoid being confrontational: People are in different stages of liberating their computing, focus on informing rather than accusing. Debatebro nonsense is not tolerated.
- All site-wide rules still apply
