"As previously announced by ABC News, to formally qualify for the debate, the participants had to meet various qualification requirements, including polling thresholds and appearing on enough state ballots to theoretically be able to get a majority of electoral votes in the presidential election."

Expect Jill Stein to whine anyway and likely show up outside the debate to make a scene about not being let in.

That Kremlin marionette can wail like the Volga in a storm, but she won't be getting any closer to the debate stage.

"Hey, if you want to vote for someone who in a really good election barely cracks 1%, sure... but you need to know they'll never get more than that."

[–] [email protected] 33 points 2 months ago (1 children)

So it sounds like no live fact checking?

[–] [email protected] 32 points 2 months ago (4 children)

They get two minutes of rebuttal, and two minutes to address the rebuttal. I would bet the phrase "Well that's just not true." is uttered more than once. Hopefully, Harris comes armed with facts, and Trump just does his Trumpy ramble and sounds like a douche. My guess he goes full firehose with the bullshit and hopes that she comes off as shrill trying to correct every lie.

[–] [email protected] 15 points 2 months ago

I think it's important for Harris to be seen calling out his bullshit... but the maga camp is so insulated from the truth that they'll probably just discard her corrections as "alternative facts" - it's nice to have the neutral party call out the bullshit.

You’ve heard of the Gish Gallop, but what about the Trump Trots? Total diarrhea of the mouth…

[–] [email protected] 13 points 2 months ago (1 children)

You're factually incorrect.

Either you know you're wrong and you're lying or you're ignorant of facts that you should be well aware of as a former president and one running for president.

Which is it?

[–] [email protected] 14 points 2 months ago (1 children)

She needs to get to the zing quicker. Also, don't ask an open ended question, because he'll use the opening to fill time with additional bullshit.

"That is false. Either you are ignorant or you are lying. I am not sure if you even know the difference anymore, but either way you are unfit for office."

[–] [email protected] 7 points 2 months ago

"Are you lying, or just a dummy?" :-P

This will be a repeat of the Clinton debate.

He's going to just say stupid shit and try to overpower her for the full time. She'll call him out on the b******* and deliver a sane and reasonable debate.

The day after both sides will claim they won.

The only thing I'm truly looking forward to is she's snarkier and more quick-witted she'll probably get enough jabs in there to really piss him off.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Did you really censor the word bullshit?

[–] [email protected] 8 points 2 months ago

I thought it was biscuits

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Welcome to the Internet. You can swear here.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 2 months ago

I don't type, solely voice dictation, turning off the curse word filter as a pain in the ass, I'm afraid you'll have to use your imagination.

[–] [email protected] 21 points 2 months ago (1 children)

So we're expecting Trump to complain about something in the rules, right?

[–] [email protected] 9 points 2 months ago (1 children)

It sounds like he got everything he wanted.

What about flies or other insects on the head of Harris's opponent?

How many misogynistic remarks will spew from Old Weird 34's wet lips?

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 months ago

Let's set up bingo. $5 buy-in, winner takes 75% of the pot.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 months ago (2 children)

The vibes of the rules are off. Not sure what it is, but I hope someone can help provide context for if these are just normal rules or if this is wild shit happening in wild times

[–] [email protected] 28 points 2 months ago (1 children)

It's normal to have open mics.

But one of Bidens requirements was muted mics.

When Kamala became the candidate, she wanted open mics.

trump claimed it shouldn't be changed just because the candidate changed. And for once he had a point.

He didn't want it for the right reasons tho, it's because he's now the weakest at speaking.

[–] [email protected] 23 points 2 months ago (2 children)

He's afraid he might let a racist comment slip out when she's talking.

[–] [email protected] 17 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

I doubt it, and I doubt it would even hurt his numbers or help Kamala at this point.

He doesn't want a mentally competent person to be able to point out every time he fucks up

Just laughing when he mispronounces a word would completely derail him.

Like, there's just flat out no crazy thing trump could say that would change people's minds about him. But laughing and getting flustered would make him look weak and cost him votes.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 months ago

It’d be easy to bait him, too:

Precisely what did you mean when you said to the NABJ that I “happened to turn black”?

[–] [email protected] 9 points 2 months ago

Timed responses and rebuttals are fairly standard, if boring. The questions come from the moderator, and their mics will be off when it isn't their turn to speak.

I doubt that stops Donny from trying to interrupt, and I wouldn't be surprised if he tries to steamroll the moderator. My hope is that Harris brings her A game and the moderator has a spine.
