Benjamin J. Davis, born on this day in 1903, was American lawyer and communist who was elected in 1943 to the New York City Council, representing Harlem. Davis was persecuted by the state via the anti-communist Smith and McCarran Acts.
Davis became radicalized through his role as defense attorney in the 1933 trial of Angelo Herndon, a 19-year-old black communist who had been charged "attempting to incite insurrection" because he tried to organize a farm workers' union.
In 1949, Davis was among a number of communist leaders prosecuted for violating the Smith Act. He was convicted and sentenced to five years in prison. In 1962 Davis was charged with violating the Internal Security Act (also known as the McCarran Act), but died before the case could come to trial.

If you make edits to a preexisting work and then throw a hissy fit about intellectual property you're a doo doo head. Sucks that the best UI mod for FNV is made and maintained by one such dork
suuuuuuuuch shitheads. on FNV specifically, all those fucking babies at GunNetwork or whatever, 90% of their vaunted exclusive mods are stripped assets from other games but you have to come to our special little garden and make an account to see them
also a source of bad blood on some other games i mod, the only time i sympathize with the 'creators' is when someone mines assets and flips them in a really janky way, because you don't want your work in an overall piece of shit---but freaking out about people reuploading, improving, borrowing with credit attribution... your 'product' is literally free why do you fucking care

Minecraft modders are the worst about this, to the point that it's just not practical to assemble your own modded Minecraft, you have to use modpacks that got permission from each mod author. Sure there are also technical reasons Minecraft modding is silly, but I do think modder egos are the main reason Minecraft modding is done by packs rather than by a mod manager.
