MODERATORS
I believe it's debated more whether that was for wiping or just cleaning the toilet area after use. Most these days think they splashed water up there with their hands as many do today.
Wiping remains the mainstream majority view, and the idea that it would be used for cleaning the toilet is very much a minority view.
