When it becomes so silly, it also becomes more palatable. This is the same reason Mortal Kombat is a thing. If the gore was realistic like the game manhunt, it'd be much more off-putting. The silly excess of blood and gore actually makes it less realistic, and thus more acceptable. A fatality can be watched and even laughed at by most people, while the average person wouldn't watch snuff films or even real fights.
